SCAMSTERS ARE AMONG US

  1. The Auto Insurance Quote of a Lifetime
I had a recent experience with an automobile insurance scam that began with a teaser that one could get insurance for $27/month. My current rate was about $79/month, which I thought was excessive since I had reduced my driving and had an unblemished record. All right, I'll blink and see what they can do. (Their offer would be about three time less than I am paying now.) And I clicked.

They request you to submit information that can impact the cost of insurance that you want: type of car, miles you drive, age, how many accidents you've had in last three years, accident coverage that you want, court appearances in the last three years, things like that ... I thought I would get a really low rate because I hadn't had any incidents in the last 10 years, much less that in the last three years; and at 71 and retired, I had reduced my annual driving to no more than about 2500 miles per year.

So, I clicked a "Continue" link. Doing that results in their asking you for your telephone number. Then they tease you with a couple of company links, Progressive Insurance and Liberty Insurance, legitimate companies that are spending huge amounts in advertising.

I was looking for a quote and not seeing one for me to consider, I kept "clicking" continue and finally got the information I needed. It was for $349, not $27/month."WHAT!?" I exclaimed silently.

I thought that was an annual number which would have equated to about $29/month. Then I looked again, and closer; the quote they gave me was $349/month, which would have equated to $4,188/year.

How does one spell "FAT CHANCE?" I responded back at'em, as though they had been listening, and closed the page.

In the next day or so, I started getting unsolicited cell phone calls by callers acting as though I was their best bud: "Hey "******", I hear you're looking for some car insurance" ... I blocked all solicitations I got from insurance agents for the next couple of days, probably about 10 or so. And they finally quit coming.

SCAM ZIP-DI-PITY-DO.

I am sure you have some great ones that you can enlighten us with. Please send then with as much detail as is relevant to peacertnow@aol.com, and they will be posted as long as they are not profane and they legitimately aid in reducing the scams that have invaded us all on this wonderful worldwide web.
